Another unnecessary romantic comedy about straight New York couples with sex and career issues. It’s tolerable if your TV is broken. Two couples: immature males cheat, see the light, grow up slightly. Add one wedding in time for end credits. Writer/director Bart Freundlich (“The Myth of Fingerprints”) can credit his dear wife and enabler Julianne Moore for playing the stage actress married to David Duchovny playing the unemployed sex-obsessed daddy of their kids who goes to Sex Addicts R’ Us meetings. Her pathetic endearing death-obsessed younger brother (“he’s like a teenager with a checking account”) is Billy Crudup, with Maggie Gyllenhaal as his girlfriend of seven years. This is a teen sex comedy for people who went to college and didn’t cut every class, so they might get a quip about taping the wrong TV documentary: the one on “Ferlinghetti,” not “Serengeti”! And this he/ she repartee: “I had a dream last night you gave me a blow job”—“I had a dream I gave you a German shepherd.” With Garry Shandling, James Le Gros, Eva Mendes and Ellen Barkin. 103m.
