In “Joe Strummer: The Future Is Yet Unwritten,” Julien Temple captures the Clash musician who inspired friends and colleagues alike. Temple’s feature career began with the memorably cracked Sex Pistols hagiography-collage “The Great Rock-‘n’-Roll Swindle” and 1986’s “Absolute Beginners” probably best demonstrated the 53-year-old director’s large-canvas pop-cult epic ambitions. Long, but not as long his “Glastonbury” documentary, “Joe Strummer” functions best as a sustained shout-out to a good man who died too young. The music is, of course, terrific. The man was mythic. 123m. (Ray Pride)
