Twenty-six-year-old writer-director-editor-cinematographer Ti West’s second feature is a grubby 1970s-style horror-thriller of modest yet substantial craft. The taut, minimalist survivalist tale, “Triggerman,” which debuted at South by Southwest this year, honors the work of his mentor-producer Larry Fessenden (“Habit,” “Wendigo”) even as he prepares to shoot “Cabin Fever 2.” He’s also friends with Kelly Reichardt, whose “Old Joy” was a highlight of 2006, and which may (or may not) be wickedly echoed here.
