(Chahar Shanbeh Suri, 2006) Asghar Farhadi’s “Fireworks Wednesday,” which won the Golden Hugo at the Chicago International Film Festival, is straightforward yet mysterious in its depiction of daily life in contemporary Tehran, capturing in his third feature a glimpse of the little-seen (on these shores) urban middle class and its disparity with the less-well-off. Taking place over Iranian New Year’s, “Fireworks Wednesday” is a superb variation on the long history of movies about infidelity: the amazing ending, similar to that of Jafar Panahi’s “Offside,” is explosive in both literal and metaphorical senses of the word. With Hamid Farokh-Nejad, Hedieh Tehrani, Taraneh Alidousti. 104m. (Ray Pride)
