Chicago filmmaker Chris Swider’s documentary “Children in Exile” (2007) exhumes another sad bone from the graveyard of the twentieth century, examining the deportation of millions of Poles to the Soviet gulags in Siberia. Survivors tell the tale, along with photographs and art that capture the terrors of the time. The witnesses are elderly now, but the unspoken question is threaded beneath is moment: why do some find it so easy to fuck up the lives of children? Once innocence is gone, knowledge is necessary, and here’s a sturdy brick of it. 60m. Swider will appear. (Ray Pride)
