Indian-born Muslim gay filmmaker Parvez Sharma shot his documentary, “Jihad for Love,” in twelve countries and nine languages, and it’s both guerilla and intimate; while largely talking-head, the testimonies and histories are both eye-opening and compelling. (Co-producer Sandi Dubowski made a similar film about closeted Orthodox Jewish homosexuals, “Trembling Before G-d.”) This is important, infuriating and ultimately hopeful work: a world this diverse, this impassioned, this eloquent ought not be silenced: it ought to speak its diversity loud and clear. 81m. The filmmakers will appear at selected shows. (Ray Pride)
