Aaron Rose’s New York-based Alleged Gallery has been a supporter of DIY esthetic since the 1990s, and “Beautiful Losers,” a scrapbook of sorts, co-directed with Joshua Leonard, is filled with energy and personality, something you’d expect when surveying artists like Mike Mills, Shepard Fairey and Harmony Korine with footage drawn from myriad formats over the past couple of decades. Located on the Lower East Side, it was, as Rose puts it, not “really a gallery. It was more of a party space for rich bored kids.” But creativity thrives in unlikely places. “Beautiful Losers” is a splendid eyeful that would be improved only by dividing into smaller parts with more intrigue from the eleven artists on show who include Ed Templeton, Barry McGee, Margaret Kilgallen and Jo Jackson. 91m.
