“‘The Most Award Winning Independent Film of 2007’: Winner of 45 International Festival Awards.” Well, there is that, topping the self-distributed film’s press kit. Earning its cheerfulness and touching moments every mile of the way, “Last Stop for Paul,” directed by Neil Mandt, is a comic road movie that circles the globe, with Thailand the destination, a neat trick furthered by having Charlie, the lead played by the director, and his cohort Cliff, played by cinematographer Marc Carter. (This was used to less satisfactory effect by the no-budget thriller “Cavite,” the director of which had to step in for a missing actor.) The exotic in twenty-five counties like Vietnam and Russia becomes the everyday in this small, resourceful feat of imagination and charm (brought in for a reported $70,000). 83m. 35mm. Mandt will appear after Friday and Saturday shows. (Ray Pride) Facets Cinematheque
