(La ventana, 2008, Argentina-Spain) Argentine director Carlos Sorín’s sixth feature, “The Window,” which follows strong work like “Intimate Stories” (2002) and “El Perro” (2004), a road movie led by a recalcitrant dog, stars veteran Uruguayan writer and scriptwriter Antonio Larrea as 80-year-old Antonio. He’s bedridden in his country home in remote Patagonia, awaits a visit from his estranged son and begins to dream of one last walk in his fields after peering out his window. As in his fine earlier work, Sorin evokes the essence of Patagonian landscape but also measures out smaller moments, gestures in confined spaces that make for appealing and often moving contrast. Larrea’s performance, hopeful in the face of last moments, is touching. With María del Carmen Jiménez. 85m. 35mm. (Ray Pride)
